On January 1st, we not only welcomed a new year, but also a brand-new decade; the roaring twenties. However, 2020 is also a huge year for the team at SSH, as we celebrate 15 years of business, and what a fifteen years they have been!
How it all Started
SSH, South Staffs Hire Ltd, was founded and established in 2005 by co-owners Darrell Miller and Paul Graham. The company originally operated as a Thrifty Car Rental franchise, trading in the Telford area.
Starting with a fleet of just 27 vehicles, hard work and determination meant the business rapidly increased to over 100 vehicles in the first 12 months, and now has over 400 vehicles to date.
In 2010, due to further expansion plans, SSH agreed an amicable departure from the Thrifty franchise system, meaning they were then able to concentrate on their core business, and trade without restraint to local businesses and the general public.

Then, in May 2012, SSH SelfDrive became the franchisee for Hertz Car Rental in Telford, Shrewsbury and Stafford. The franchise provided a unique and valuable opportunity for SSH SelfDrive to expand alongside a multi-national company. Due to the success and growth of the business, a second branch was opened in Stafford to support the company’s increasing portfolio of customers in the area.
Today, SSH’s area of coverage has expanded even further, and they now cover Stoke-on-Trent, Cannock, and Wolverhampton, as well as their two main locations in Telford and Stafford. Thus making them established market leaders in the vehicle hire sector throughout Shropshire and the surrounding counties.
